I posted here last year, never reached a solution. 96 300tdi auto, no spider, edc model.
Vehicle is housed and rarely used but when being used for field work, goes perfectly for a while then fails to start, spins over only. No fuel to injectors but certainly getting to the injector pump. Twice I've had to tow it back and refuses to start for a few days. I still use it occasionally but keep it running all the time.
I reckon its the immobiliser stopping the diesel in the pump but can't find find a way to bypass it. Light not flashing in dash. I haven't been able to read any codes. It's really a breaker so I'm not spending much on it, but nonetheless very useful to me.
Any ideas please?

One of the areas that is used to immobilise the D1 Tdi engine is by removing the 12v supply to the fuel shut off solenoid, another area is the starter (cranking) which appears not to be the issue for u.
So it’s possible that you don’t have a problem with the immobiliser function at all but an intermittent fault with the solenoid, or its 12v supply + or - to it.
You will have to get past security feature fitted around the solenoid, to check the incoming 12v supply is there when required.

Or quite simply remove the stop solinoid remove the viton tip and refit, you would have to stall her
To stop it running but it removes all possible electrical gremlins out of the equation,

I'd originally got advice on the solenoid and removed the innards. The auto still stops on the key as well.
I'd read about bridging across two pins on the green ecu in the passenger footwell. I've done this but I still need to use the fob as usual to disable the immobiliser so appears not to have helped. I've tried to replicate the non start in the shed to try and get a code without success.
There have been previous threads on this but all went dead without any solution.

Unfortunately what u say in your last paragraph is all to common in any Forum.

If it was my vehicle i would still think it was a electrical issue, that’s until I've proven myself wrong, and then is mechanical :)
The a full EDC wiring diagram of the system is on one page which is handy, shown in the Haynes manual, it looks straight forward, and hopefully the Land Rover manual will give details on how EDC works, handy to know when and what condition to expect in the wiring from and to the control unit etc.

Might not be your problem but I had the same symptoms and found the fuel solenoid wiring had a break somewhere in the loom on my 96 tdi, a bugger to locate it so I just put a new wire to the solenoid from the fuse box, that switched on/off with the ignition.

I hid the fob on my tdi so I could never accidentally arm the alarm, it just caused too much hassle, I also removed the wires to the siren.
