New on here & new to landrovers - but I've got a problem ...any ideas appreciated.

I bought my Landy 90 back in Nov, 3 months ago & did about a hundred miles - no real problems ... then to get out of snow one day I used the Diff lock & "rocked" it out of a drift ... after that ...I started to have a strange oscillation - which progressed ... to a really nasty clonking - especially at low speed.

So I got underneath - Rear UJ on rear proshaft worn, removed the prop & whilst it was off - I had to move the landy around the yard..Front wheel Drive but slowly ...yep ... no noise & no problem.

Just fitted a replacement wide angle rear prop (the vehicle has a 2" lift on it) - something I thought strange was that with one rear wheel jacked up & NOT in diff lock & gbx in neutral .. wast that whilst under the vehicle I could not turn the prop ... to make access to the bolts easier.

Fitted the prop let the jack off - & jumped in ... she'll not move ... if I put her in Diff Lock - she will move ... Just ..but she "hates" it !!..feels like something nasty will happen ...like wants to snap !!..weakest link ?... my new prop ? ...

As I say FWD & no rear prop ... fine.

Any Ideas ? - Transfer Box ?

Thanks in advance - great forum,

Cheers,

Russ

Handbrake on ?

Thanks for the reply,

Well ... The handbrake is definitely off, been upunderneath & the cable is slack ... undone the adjuster to be sure.

But I reckon your onto it .. the drum is tight & I can't get the adjuster to back off at all... Mmm ... this landy was stood for a year before I got it, I'm getting the feeling that this isn't good... all I've used it on are wet salty roads

What's the form for a stuck on drum - shoes binding & not releasing ... and unable to back off ?...

big hammer:D:D

belt the crap out of the drum and hope it snaps the mechanism back so you can strip it.

you may be lucky belting it with a hammer ... but chances are it will jam whenever the handbrake is applied... mine kept sticking ...only cure is to take rear prop off , remove drum and take the shoes off ... little bits will fall out of the adjuster and the actuater if they aint seized solid. most difficult bit is getting the drum off... needed an impactdriver to get the two screws out on mine.

look in busters photo tours before you start it will save a lot of swearing trying to get it all back together
