Well that it, I've made the decision to pass on the old girl and get something a little different - yes that's right, an x5. I'll be sad to see her go, we've been through a lot together, all the common faults, Gen 2s, pump rebuild, discs, stainless exhaust etc etc. I've had a lot of fun on here and will keep pOpping back to see if I can pass on the benefits of my learnings from 6 owned RR.

Not another pillar of the community jumping ship.:(
Never really fancied an X5 but also not sure how much I am kidding myself by constantly reminding myself how much I love my 2 P38's. Cold winter days chasing down another niggle isn't as much fun as we all think.
Anyway I hope it works out and please pop in and visit the forum once in a while. Remember you have a lot of knowledge that guys like me rely upon.

I wish bmw made a real offroader as I am a bmw man and have had 5 and still have 1, but they are ****e offroad. if you dont go offroad then it doesnt matter

I had really hoped they were good offroad but had to buy a slitty as I found out they wernt

Latest survey I have seen has the Allroad, X5 and Range Rover as the bottom 3 for reliability, wonder what they all have in common ? Of course the CRV won but they are boring but probably as good as an X5 offroad.

Congrats rewmer, smart move,no more active air suspension that it is inactive most of the time,no more slipped liners,no more crapy brake modulator, better fuel economy,a\c condensor that will last almost forever,no more eka and alarm problems,if this is not enough to trade your p38 then keep it,no more blood and sweat and tears, spending more time to drive then to stay under the bonnet, and more laughter, good luck

Thanks Jorjio, I do love the old girl but it is time for a change. I had an e34 520 once and was well impressed with the engineering. I don't take the Range offroad now as I have a fully prepared Discovery for shooting and playing, so just need a road car that can take 3 kids worth of luggage on holidays and stuff and of course a V8. The X ticked all the boxes. As mentioned I will still stick around but will be spending more time over at the xoutpost.

let us know if any of the boys there have managed to make one in to a good offroader and what it took as I want bmw build quality off road.

lets hope they still make em as good as the e34!

Doesn't all the v8s have EAS which has plenty of it's own issues, don't know about the BMW build quality on the x5 as it comes out very low on the survey's. Anyhow everyone to thier own especially since I am contemplating a v6 3.5 Sorento, but have not decided as I do like my Rangie.

you'll be back , you'll never be able to handle the reliability ...

The early V8s are starting to suffer from porous engine block issues - ghost of RR? And transmissions aren't very long lived either. Not exactly a Toyota in terms of durability!
