I thought I'd start a thread on what I thought would be an easy fix! I should have known from the start as nothing is ever simple fixes nowadays!
I had a call from a so called mate about a 2001 TD5 in dark metallic blue for sale and spoke to the guy and he said it was his fathers and now the engine had started to misfire it was time to give up driving! I was sent some pics and it looked ok small ding in the n/s rear door and cracked front bumper but at £800 I thought it's worth a look?
Went and looked and it fired straight into life on five cylinders then onto four, it had a little bit more paint work needed on rear quarter but one previous and being an ES with beige leather, Three new tyres, suspension was still up! And I offered £700 which was accepted. A phone call was made and my recovery driver picked it up a few days later.
I went and purchased a new injector harness before it arrived as thought that's bound to be the misfire issue.
Changed the harness and still the same so pulled the ecu out and found a bit of oil but nothing to serious cleaned it out and still the same!
Checked the oil and it was full of diesel! Drained it out which was about 15 litres in total, ordered a injector seal kit and changed them and then it wouldn't start, fuel pump priming procedure followed many times then hydraulic itself so injectors pulled out one by one and changed the copper seals, no5 being the culprit!
Started on the button on 5 cylinders then revved it up and back on 4 cylinders Arrrrgggghhh!
Thought to myself I need some diagnostics so went and bought a Hawkeye Total
Results on injector roughness was +29 on 5 and -30 on 1 when on 4 cylinders when it did start on 5 roughness was -1 to +1 on all cylinders
I bought another injector and swapped them round starting with no5 and no change
Checked the oil and sump full of diesel again!!!
So now the head is off and been sent to be repaired so much for thinking it was the harness!
More to follow with pics

After what you've described here, you must be indeed black and blue....thing about the supposedly cheap ones is that you end spending as much as would have on one with fewer or no issues. Best of luck with it

Indeed tbh costs haven't run away £150 for the cylinder head repair plus harness, 2 x seal kits, s/h injector, 4 x 5 litres of oil but got that at very good price plus another 2 now needed when the head goes back on, gaskets, head bolts etc
Yes I havent included my time but I thought you had to discount labour nowadays since that what they do on wheeler dealers
So in my head it's still cheap haha

Plus the hawkeye, but I can use that in my day job if anyone comes in with a Landy of whatever make

So while I thought it would be on the road by now my daily is giving up!

So trawling through various auction sites etc I've found a '54 plate TD5 Landmark in black with grey/black leather which needs a wing, bonnet and screen! MOT'ed till November

Hopefully arriving Monday

Not much of an update but black one arriving tomorrow lunchtime now, screen is booked in for weds to be replaced!
So I can at least use it weds

I want to fit a snorkel to this seeing as I have got to replace the wing anyway, what opinions do people have and are the ABS type ones on eBay etc ok?

Black one arrived lunchtime today quite pleased with it tbh

Chassis is solid but has surface corrosion which is to be expected, has a set of General Grabber tyres all round which have plenty of life left, stereo has been replaced with a Bluetooth alpine unit.
Leather is in good condition but bit of wear on drivers seat but consistent with mileage

Only downside is it's going to need a passenger headlight

Had to wash it 3 times just to get it anywhere near clean! But that's black for you

Pics to follow once screen is fitted tomorrow

Waited most of the day for screen to be fitted to be told at 3pm the fitter can't make it! Ggggrrrrgggghhhh

Got to wait till tomorrow now! And I had swapped insurance over and taxed it today!

Will try and get these painted Saturday if not next week, then that will tidy the outside up, and hopefully the cylinder head will be back from repair also.
Going to pick a bonnet up today for the black one just need a wing and find a facelift headlight

Going to pick up a snorkel today so will get that fitted when wing gets changed.
Thought it would suit the look seeing as it has no steps, AT's, steering guard and the roof light bar

Wing, snorkel, and egr delete arrived today so I got the snorkel fitted to the wing, removed old wing straightened the wing rail up and got it bolted in place but ran out of time to plumb the snorkel in so will probably leave that till Saturday now and fit egr delete then to.
Will get the bonnet painted tomorrow then fit that Saturday
Got the doors painted for the blue one and got them on the car so looks better now just waiting for the head to come back

Bonnet repaired and spot primed as looks like it was laid on the badges and was full of dents along the front edge

Old wing

New wing and snorkel fitted, need to sort bonnet and headlight, and sort the roof spotlights, think they need moving under the bar which will look neater! They don't work either so need to check wiring

I bought a egr delete and went to fit it today but someone had screwed the thread up of the bolt holding the engine cover on! So spent 10-15mins removing that and broke the fuel line from the fuel cooler off! Now it needs a new cooler which I can't get till Monday, and the blue disco has a cylinder type so couldn't even swap them over!

Pushed the disco into the workshop and went home in the golf!

Went to the local LR Breakers and they said they had a late type fuel cooler, anyway after an hour nothing was found, I rang Land Rover and ordered a new one which will be in tomorrow for £93
Wish I had just called them first and not wasted 2 hours
