I have just go mt first 4.6 V8 and i was doing the biz small service oil, plugs and so on and I noted once I pulled my oil filler cap off all this light brown rust looking film in side the cap and down the tube. I wiped it all off whats that all about ? I am going to put good oil in and fit a LR oil fillter.

If it's only been used for short runs and if the engine isn't getting up to optimum temperature then it will condensate up in the rocker box. This may give the effect you mention. On occasions it can give the impression of a blown head gasket (emulsified gunge).
