I am going to burn it....

Right then I changed the turbo on the 200tdi and it still smokes like a pig. No oil in the water or vice versa so maybe not the head gasket (probably id though knowing my luck).
Any other ideas of what it could be before I mothball the bloody thing?

does it breath heavy out of filler hole if cap removed

It is breathing heavily through the pipe that comes off of the cap if that helps

checked valve clearances ,has it done a few miles

Didn't think the 200tdi had a pipe off the filler cap

A 200tdi mileage unknown, smokes like a pig ticking over and worse when it is revved...

If it was 'ok' before the original turbo went then your exhaust/intercooler could be oil laden. That happened to mine and after replacing the bust turbo I took her for a long run.
Twas very embarrassing for the first few miles with the amount of smoke but it gradually subsided and ceased after around 8miles maybe?

Luckily it was not connected to the intercooler when it died! Can't drive it as it will need an MOT which I have been working towards but with all of the smoke it won't get the ticket....bloody Land Rovers!!

Have a look at the exhaust joints and tail pipe, wet with oil?

There was either oil or diesel being blown out of the exhaust...I was hoping that this was from the last knackered turbo...

it can take a few miles for exhaust to clear

Problem is I cannot drive the bugger until it has an MOT but with this smoke I doubt it will get one!

Take the long route to the testing station and hope for the best.

You can legally drive it to an mot station or a place of repair with out an mot, a place of repair can be any where ie a mates house ....... Some several miles away.......you need to burn off all that old oil that's collected in the exhaust.

LMAO knowing my luck it would die a death! I will drop the front pipe i think and check there to see if there is blue smoke when running, If there is I will adjust teh valve clearances and if it still blue change the stem seals...would that be a good order?

Ok then I have had the exhaust off again and it smokes like a pig anyway so it was not oil in the exhaust from the old turbo
To add insult to injury the power steering box has just given up the will to live dumping it oil everywhere. I think it may be time to park this up and walk away for a few months....
