Despite my attempts to beg, borrow and steal a press for my LT230 rebuild I’m going to have to buy a new one.

There are some cheap ones on eBay (bottle jack welded into a frame).

What rating would do for transfer box bearing and then other general stuff - rear and front diffs, bushes etc.

Would a 12 ton do?

I know bigger is better but trying to keep costs down.

Sounds like you've already ordered one, but I've been very pleased with my SGS Engineering press. The only thing it wouldn't do was press the ball joint out of the rear suspension upper link. It did succeed in bending the bracket the ball joint goes into though. There's some pictures of it putting 25 tons on the ball joint here https://www.landyzone.co.uk/land-rover/springs-and-things.239690/page-2. Well into the red section! Most components gave way at 10-15 tons or so.

I've got one of the orangey/red ebay chinese cheapies & it's been very good - incl RRC A-frame ball joint!
You will probably find that the bottle jack isn't actually welded onto the plate & if yours is like that when it arrives I'd advise drilling a couple of holes through its base & the platform it sits on & putting a couple of bolts in to stop any possibility of it slipping when under load.

That’s exactly the kind I got. Good bit of advice I’ll have a look into that
