First off I'd like to say hello to everyone. First post on the forum.

I don't know where to turn so I'm going to just let it all out here.

I have a 2004 Freelander 2.5L with 90k miles. I was traveling the highway the other day at about 75mph when the check engine light came on. There was a slight rumbling in the engine and there was a loss of power. After driving for about 5 miles, looking for an exit, the light went away and the power came back. Since I've notice a small drop in mpg efficiency and when sitting still idling it starts to lose rpm and rumble a little. Also when first applying the gas to take off it seems to do a small jolt off the line.

I went to the store and picked up some new spark plugs. There lies the next issue. Where exactly are the 6 plugs? I undid and removed the part shown here. http://www.cellularamps.com/sparkplug1.jpg When I pulled it out it ended up being a piece about as long as my finger. My guess is this part slides down and straddles the spark plug. Am I correct or no?

How exactly do I get to the spark plug? It isn't in the piece I pulled out is it? Do I have to take the intake manifold off and replace the gasket during the process? Could anyone please help me with instructions on how to remove and replace the spark plugs on this thing? I've worked on heavy machinery and airplanes a lot but learning when it comes to this vehicle.

I'm a Texan
kinell - that's 2 problems!

welcome to loonyzone
I once had a KV6 Gaylander too - worst car I ever owned.
The plugs are buried pretty deep - you'll need an extension bar on your plug socket. The ones in the rear bank are awkward to get too but it can be done without removing the manifold.
Good luck!

if daft dint calm down we'll all be having something issue. then again it is the gaylander bit so most will be thinking " ooo! if only that was male"

A Merkin with a Gaylander ..... how bad can it get?

Planning to pick up the lightweight on Saturday!
