My boot opens fine at the moment but had a few dodgy moments when I thought it wasn't going to!
I've tried the search function but cant seem to find what I'm looking for.
My question is: in the event of not being able to open the boot from the outside how do you do it from the inside?
I removed the interior panel today but all I can see is this?
Thanks ;)

There is a "Diagnostic mode" of sorts you can enter by fiddling with ignition and foglight switch (sorry, cant remember how to do it - its detailed on here somwhere, I think member Hippo knows the score) that allows you to test various car functions from the driver seat, one of which is opening the back door.

The two thicker wires are for the rear heated windscreen. The other loom is for the latch mechanism . The actuator can be accessed by undoing the bottom screws. There you can feel the actuator puller and C connector to the latch mechanism. Might be possible to attach a another rod to act as a manual pulley.
I have just recently replaced my worn out actuator and noticed how simple easy to rig up a manual version.

surely if you open it manually from the inside the glass wont drop and you risk breaking it?

No wattfield no trapped inside lol
I just like being prepared for eventualities.
Got to say the fact you can't open the boot with a key is the most stupidest thing I've ever come across.
A couple of times the electronic handle hadn't opened the boot on the first attempt and it got me wondering how the hell you get in if it won't open?
I suppose the best option is to drop the window and lug everything out of the boot through the window

By the way I read somewhere you can gain access by removing the Landrover badge?
Is that right or is that a different model?

Not having an internal handle does appear strange but no more so than a modern Astra not having one. The problem with the Freelander is the need to drop the window 1/2 an inch before the latch releases. However as to why they didn't add a boot release next to the driver's seat, I don't know. This wouldn't be impossible for someone with reasonable electrical knowledge though.

Now that would be a good mod! ;)
It would but some kind of ignition on interlock would need to be added to a remote rear door release. It wouldn't be good to have the rear door accidentally open while driving. Thankfully an ignition interlock is easy to make.
