Hi guys, I am trying to get a new v5 for my series landy the issue being the bulkhead was replaced at some point (from a donor vehicle) and the VIN plate was never replaced.

As such I've got a short wheelbase landy with a VIN plate that says it's a long wheelbase!

Any help very much appreciated.

Olly

You need to find a friendly motor trader, they usually have a pro grade hpi type check that gives them vin from reg number. That's what I did. Consumer grade checkers won't do that.

This sounds like a "where do I find the chassis number on a chassis" question to me.

If so => RHD vehicle - front right hand dumb iron on the outer side

One you have this you can get a plate for your bulkhead made

Pop in a motor factors like motor parts direct, give them your reg & they should be able to tell you the vin

Looking at the problems you have had identifying this random pile of cobbled together parts its probably prudent to contact DVLA to make sure your not trying to get a ringer back on the road. Even if you dont care if bits of it have been stolen in the past I'm sure the person you eventually sell it to deserves the truth. It may also need to be registered with a Q plate.

Hi Bobsticle,

thank you for the feedback, my reason for posting is that I have contacted the DVLA already (I want to make sure everything is above board) and they have asked me to confirm the VIN number - this is when I realised that my bulkhead had been replaced and the VIN place from the donor car left on!

I certainly would care if parts were stolen and the last thing I would want to do is pass on any potential issues to someone else (not that I'll be selling her anyway).

I'm hoping to avoid the Q plate option but I'll have to see if I can find a chassis number this evening as suggested by one of the other guys.

I think I'm making progress here, I just found the chassis number which is 24138723C. This correlates to a series 2a 88" Petrol model, which is roughly what I have.

If I check the number plate on the DVLA website it also correlates to a series 2a 88" Petrol.

Pretty sure VIN nos in the recognised standard form didn't come in to effect till 1981 so your chassis number is your VIN unless the vehicle is post 1981 in which case it should have the now familiar 17 character VIN code.

According to this site =>

The C suffix was only used between 1966 and 1967 - so if that year approximates to your vehicle reg - "D" or "E" reg then you're probably barking up the right tree. Your bulkhead should look like this =>

1965-series-2a-station-wagon-bulkhead-off-jpg.99986

(Ideally with out so much rust on it of course)

Puddle jumper you're spot on, the chassis number is what I'm after (because the car pre dates VIN numbers).

I got a professional HPI check done and the plate matches the chassis number which is a start. Nothing dodgy flagged up with my search and since I posted this I have found an almost unreadable number on the front right spring mount - but it definitely starts with a 2 which is something! Thank you so much for the response. Olly

Stretch you legend my Landy is an E plate. At least something with this vehicle appears to be straight forwards! Thanks so much for the reply. Olly
