hello

so im consistently getting poor SWR off my gutter mount, i think its cos the coil is too near the side of the roof and it's getting interference.

anyway, im guessing the mag mount is the easy fix, but i'm concerned that it'll get pulled off the first time i do some heavy forest offroading.

i'm thinkig of mounting it in the middle of the disco roof, just in front of the rear sunroof, but i dot want it to get pulled over. does this happen often?

i also dont mind drilling the roof and fitting a proper fixed mount, might be better for earth connection, but means dropping the headliner etc etc (i already have the alpine trims out anyway though)

just looking for help please boyos cos CB is a bit new to me :)

cheers!

i have one on my disco the only time it has fell off is when a tree branch went right across the roof. they stick well

Have you tried one of those spare wheel mounts? Also check your coax isn't fooked. One old trick to go bam up a CBer (trolling irl) was to go stick a tack through their coax so their swr went to buggery.

I don't have a spare wheel on the door, but thanks for the advice/link!

And it struggles with much more than 60, so I guess I'm good to go if 100s the limit :D

Thanks guys, I'll have a look at my roof tomorrow, need to decide what's best for cable routing.

OR do I just remove the stud fitting from my gutter mount and fit it to the roof proper job?! Its always gonna be an offroader so a hole int roof ain't a biggie really.

Hmmm :)

If you don't mind a bit of work removing cabin trim and re-fitting then fit one of these to the rear.

My Mag mount comes off about 4-6 times everytime I'm out laning. It is the big 7" one. I am going to be going for a better solution soon.

I wouldn't recommend a Mag mount where there will be alot of overhanging trees/branches.

Never had my mag mount come off, 7" turbo type with small springer.

Noisy if you decide to go the mag route drop me a pm, cant use mine on the 110 and have bought one of the type Dewin put the link to so you can have it for beer tokens :)

Thanks for the help/links guys!

Im gonna remove my rear interior lamp and have a look at the roof above it, as that area would be ideal to drill my current mount into, cos I have wiring access without having to drop the whole liner.

Will check it out :

That side mount chappie looks nice, but there's nowhere 100% ideal on a disco apart from next to alpine light I think, but then it might get ripped off!!!

Thanks bobbler, I'll be in touch if required, but I think the general consensus is that a fitted mount of some sort will be worth the effort!

Cheers very muchly, sam

I used to have a gutter mount cb aerial on my works trucks. I was forever ripping them off on low trees/branches. I stuck a mag mount on my roof instead. As soon as I got up to 80mph the mag would fly off the roof and stick itself to the side of my truck. I got so hacked off I took the cb out of my truck. On my landy I have a mirror arm mount fitted to the roof access ladder. It's well protected in its current location but isn't without its problems. I can transmit over long ranges but I have a very limited reception range.

My cb aerial is attatched to my bull bar, admittedly it's not the best position for long distance forward reception but 90% of the time I'm talking to people that are almost in shouting distance and its just about roof height so if I'm going under something and it pings the aerial I know I've gotta stop n back up. ;) ;) :D :D

Woohoo!

Success, finally.

i gave up trying mounts, so i decided to remove the stud mount from my gutter mount and drill a hole for it in the roof.

i cleaned up the underside of the roof so it had a nice shiny earth to bond to.

this is what i came up with. it was dead easy to fit cos i simply removed the rear interior light and drilled the hole directly above there, and then ran the wire to it under the headlining.

result: an swr reading of between 1.05 and 1.1 on channels 1, 20 and 40.

yeehaa! :D

I fitted one on my disco by the alpine window with a stinger on it, you need to get it as high as possible and bent the bottom of the stinger to get it to sit straight.
Looks really good and effective but as said you have to remove the trim around the window but it's not a difficult job.
If you want I'll put a piccy up?
