Still running steel rope on the winch, and would like to swap it out for plasma/synthetic to make it a bit safer.

I am hoping I could get 40 mtrs of 10mm on it, I see a lot of people are fitting 12mm but I don't need a capacity of 9T as my winch is only rated at 4t and 10mm still has a 7T capacity and I would rather fit more rope on the spool.

Currently runs circa 28mtrs of steel rope, but was wondering if anyone who has already replaced their steel rope with synthetic knows how much 10mm synthetic rope I could get on the spool in place of the steel rope?

Buy it in bulk. Put what you can on the winch and the remainder braid loops at each end for extra long (safe) pulls
At least with synthetic you can braid it back together if it breaks.
You just have to learn ;)
Don't forget to change from rollers to smooth winch hawse.
Good luck & don't get stuck:)

Buy it in bulk?

At that price?

Dyneema Bowrope 14mm x 30.5m(100')SYNTHETIC ROPE,Redwinch,Gigglepin,Superwinch, | eBay

Most of them are selling pre-made 30mtr lengths with spliced on hook and fastening eyelet, I was going to ask Dave Bowyer to do me a length that I thought could fit on the drum to replace the cable, Could get a 50mtr length and have a bit of spare to splice loops into and use as extensions, well, so long as they still sell it by the meter.

Sorry forgot you pay top price...
After doing many years doing rally recovery you make a few contacts. Normally goes on the lines of "can you pull us out fast"
I stopped winching 20 years ago & started racing. Yep I stil stop if someone is stuck on course and drag them back.

Few other tips
Always ask for discount.
Ask for more discount if you stick their stickers to your pride & joy.

Dave normally is up for deals ;)
He used to run good winch courses.

I will ring tomoz to see what he says, I recons on 50mtrs of 10mm with three eyelets, I can always wrap it on the drum, tie it around a digging bucket and winch that in and lay it on the spool at the same time, once it's loaded I can trim off the excess and splice an eyelet on it, I'm not 100% on putting a hook on it or one of those safety thimbles, I've seen them a few times but can't find them in the UK only on US sites.

Not seen a safety thimble.?
in the eyelet attach a hook with a removable split pin.Use hook for easy work. Remove this hook and use a shakel for any thing else.
Always make sure hook safety gate works.

Oh it's just like an eyelet :)
I would get one fitted & buy a spare. Saves wearing out your rope.
How's your braiding lessons going;)

Yep, it takes a 3/4 shackle too so not bad.

I bought one for now and I have a couple of std eyelets coming with it.

I have to wait for it to come on Thursday to start the practice, been watching the tutorial vids on youtube, a good one on there from Devon 4X4 about splicing on an eyelet and how to tidy the tails properly.
