Hi all,

I'm interested in doing a series project (probably a series 3) bit I was wondering if you guys could give me a rough idea of cost to buy the vehicle and get it on the road?

I've seen vehicles for sale at the £500-£1000 price point which require some chassis welding etc to get through an MOT. what sort of cost to might you expect to get such a vehicle through an MOT?

I would be looking for a pick up, probably swb and would do most of the work (except welding) myself.

Thanks

Toby

The cheapest option is to be patient, keep looking and buy the best you can afford. I have just sold my series three SWB diesel for £2000. A solid motor with very good chassis and bulkhead, tidy inside and out with a recent engine rebuild.
I have only sold due to retiring and can not afford to keep all the toys so just the old bikes for me now.
Be aware series motors can be a money pit and a good welder is going to cost for quality work. Tacking patches on will be grief in a short time when the job needs doing again.

How long is a length of string! There are lots out there and prices really vary from some on eBay for half nothing to restored models, in my opinion you would prob need to spend a few bob more than 1k if you want one that won't financiàlly break you! If your prepared to do most of the work you will save a packet be prepared to pull your hair out but i think their worth it.

Good luck.

welding can cost from a couple of hundred upwards a new chassis around 1500 new bulkhead 1000 upwards as for buying a pickup doesnt matter buy a full hardtop and retrofit a pickup top from around £80 upwards or a full tilt around £300 for the tilt and the same for the hoops or just buy 1 with a canvas already on in my opinion you can still buy a half decent series with mot for a couple of grand but those days are rapidly fading so do it now

That depends entirely on what you expect as a finished result.

The cheapest way is undoubtedly to buy one that is already done. Tinkering aint cheap, especially if you aint got a fully kitted out workshop.

I wanted to stick weld a few small patches on Henry and so far its cost me about two hundred quid and I havnt even got the steel yet..........

If its a hobby your after then its not a bad one but it takes a lot of time.

Bought my series 3 for 600 pounds in 2002 drove it for a few years, then spent 3 years and almost 6000 pounds restoring her! (Parts paint panels etc) It all depends what condition you are happy with? You get what you pay for and out of what you are prepared to put into her. Regards. Chris
