Depending on how much tread is left, 4.5 5mm & they are all the same with the DOT age ok , plus what make they are, £60 for all 4 personally I would go with a new set of M+S tyres part worn can be dangerous.
id never get second hand brake disks/padsThe unknown history of second hand tyres would put me oft. Same reason why I don't use second hand brake disks/pads.
just incase it snowsThere has to be a reason someone got rid of their part worn tyres, winter or otherwise. Sidewall damage, puncture repairs, 1/2 pound of lead needed to balance them? Considering you’ve only got a square foot or so of contact between the road and your vehicle part worn tyres seem a very risky compromise to me. Anyway, you’re driving a 4x4, what do you need winter tyres for in Birmingham?
exactly ,the tyres the only contact with the road, with poor tyres little else mattersThe unknown history of second hand tyres would put me oft. Same reason why I don't use second hand brake disks/pads.

You have a Freelander. All you need is more than 4mm of tread on M&S rated tyres. Unless you're driving up in the moors, you don't need winter tyres.
Last winter my FL1 climed a local 20% hill, covered in thick snow and I didn't even see the TC kick in. It had my well worn (4-5mm) tread cheap AT tyres on and she still went where I needed. For this winter I'm going to be using my 18" rims, fitted with new Copper Touring M&S rated tyres, and I expect it to go anywhere I needed.
I personally avoid tyres that I didn't buy new, as the history is unknown.
If you must have winter tyres, then buy them new from one of the many discount tyre websites and have them fitted locally. New budget winter tyres will always be better than unknown second hand winter tyres.
how much did you pay for it?I bought a part worn tyre once, not for the Landy, to use as a spare because the spare that came with the car was worn smooth. The next time I looked at it the sidewall was bulging, and it hadn't even been used on the road. Never again.
Mud and Snow.what does M&S stand for? sorry to sound thick lol
Oponeo. They have good performing winter tyres from £63, depending on the size you need. https://www.oponeo.co.uk/tyre-finder/s=1/winter/t=1/4x4/r=1/235-60-r18do you recommend any budget winter tyres?
Peeps get rid of tyres for a reason. How will you know why they have got rid?
I sold some as they were orrible. Warned the buyer and offered a refund but he still wanted them.
I can appreciate your being careful with yer money but do you need a second set of tyres? Are you going to fit them to a second set of wheels or run the all the time on the wheels yer have at the moment? Cost of changing tyres for winter should be factored in if yer want to change them for the summer, then repeat.
Do they struggle to get a seal on the rim? Will they be inflated for you to see the buldges? Are they round or were they supporting their last vehicle for 2 years stationary? Kerbbed a lot?
