Hot as in you cant touch it for more than maybe 5 seconds before you have to let go.

Only after 40 min to 1hr mway journeys.

Going to check the oil later where its cooled down but the area around the tranny is very very hot.

Thanks

Do check your oil levels but I hasten to remind you that the air flows directly through the tunnel from the engine bay so that whole area is likely to get quite hot, my old series used to be relentless in the summer when it comes to heat coming through the tunnel and even the bulkhead.

thats quite normal especially with this weather ,the t/box ep oil gets hots and is not too good at getting rid of heat, which is why gear boxes run thin oil and have done since s111s and early range rovers

i just drove 140miles in my defender, at a constant 65mph ish and i could put my hand on the transmission tunnel, it was hot but not uncomfortably so to be honest, i could keep my hand there for way longer than 5 seconds

Tranny tunnel is fine its the square section where the OBD port is thats hot

Cheers guys shouldnt worry toi much then, though I have noticed the tx box is weeping a little now where it was bone dry before. I wondering if ive some blocked breathers too
