Hi :) First post.

Just got a Freelander 3dr Freestyle 2005 TD4. Happy with it so far but I am prepared for problems after spending a couple of weeks reading this excellent and informative site.

I have so far got rid of the propshaft so it is 2 wheel drive at the moment but will probably have the prop examined, reconditioned if necessary and refitted. I have changed the oil and air filter and today I have just changed the engine breather. On my next tank fill I am going to treat the tank to some Wynns injection cleaner and then it will be MILLERS DIESEL ECOMAX power sport 4 cleaner with every tank fill and once the Wynns is through the system I intend to change the fuel filter.

I removed the inlet manifold and cleaned the ports with some rag and some paraffin but could not get into it to clean the main internal body. How do people do this....it appears to be a sealed unit.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Ok, as you seem to know how to take it off. Get an old bucket or washing up bowl put the manifold in there and spray Mr Muscle oven cleaner in all the holes unil theres none left in the can.
Leave for at least 2 hours, the longer the better. Then clean out with fresh water. If it's still mucky then use another tin of oven cleaner and repeat.
Make sure the manifold is completely dry before you put it back!
Mine took 3 goes but it's all sparkly now
