Notably Discovery 5 and Freelander 3

When driving along the FL3 is smaller and obvious but in car park how can you tell which is which easily?

Easy to tell apart FL1 2, D1, 2 (3 and 4 not so), and the 4 versions of Range Rover.

But now there are non easily identifiable models.

Not good for the D5 buyer when it looks like a Freelander.

Car parks is easy. The bigger the pool of oil under it the older the model. If it has nob keyed into the paintwork its a Rangie and if its just a heap of rusty debris then its a trattor. :D
Oh and if the doors are face down in each adjoining bay its a Freelander (usually outside a laungeré shop)

At one time I could tell just about any car at night at just about any distance by the rear light cluster. They all seem to be very similar these days. Either that or I dont give a hoot anymore ;) My pet hate is name badges on the rear of any car. Best was a Ford in the 80s with Granada Ghia X executive 3.0 across the boot. I used to de badge my own cars, as if I am going to forget what it is, I paid for the ruddy thing:rolleyes:.
Not even keen on tratter mud flaps with Land Rover on em. Or the rear spare wheel cover.

Name badges don't bother me.

Tratter engine badges are a good way of discerning if it is a knob or not. Saw this a few weeks ago, Puma bonnet and some bling. Saved from derision by flaps under the windscreen, engine sticker and a straight through exhaust.OK I do not like heavily blinged up Pumas.

If I bought a new Discovery I would not like people thinking it was a Freelander 3, but then I suppose the FL3 owners can pretend to drive a Discovery.

JLR are at it. Throwback to badge engineering of the 70's and 80's. The new models look similar cos they are with same subchassis and engines. Just milking the brand name. It'll backfire eventually when ordinary motorists can't see any distinction and sales fall.

It would be easier if they had their badging correct.

Time for some thin nylon line and some freelander letters for a Freelander 3 about 2 roads up

Is there any brand that doesn't use as much common structure as possible - or even shared across brands - GM, Peugeot, Citroen, Mazda, Ford.......?

Matter of taste I think the new Disco is fab, but bound to be a bit too pretty for many? Cheers, A

I like the overall look of the new Disco, more so in person, but that off centre license plate... Looks like it had a stroke, poor thing.

There was a reason for that offset plate in previous models. Now, it just looks silly TBH.
