Have now broken two wheel nut unlocking tools! Nut has been over tightend by Idiot tyre fitter with high powerd air nut gun, Have tried bar that was 6 feet long, no luck just another broken tool. Is drilling out the only other option!

If the nut on the vehicle it damaged get a impact socket and smack it over the whel nut, this shocks the nut and helps loosening. Also another tip is to go for a run in the car first and ride the brakes slightly so warming the stud and nut up, as hot nuts are esier to loosen than cold.

The above statement leaves wondering minds open to crud comments ie: how come it is harder to loosen in the summer as opose to winter? I will leave you to disscus

My son has same problem at moment on his discovery3 his locking wheel nut is spinning on the end due same over tightened this now has to be ground off ?? Before being able to get to the other part with a grip and twist socket .. when we have managed to find a burr hard enough to grind end as it's hardened steel I'll let u know . All the land rover machanics he's spoke have said its worst idea ever but at £100 a pop to remove business is good

Had to get the four removed last week on my wife's Corsa as I broke the original key and also the new one I ordered, due to some knob who fitted the last set of tyres.
I used a mobile outfit, guy took about 2 mins per wheel, used a thing like an Impact driver but with a sort of socket on the end, no damage to any of the wheels.
£10 a wheel, job done

Two years ago when I has replacement tyres fitted at Kwik Fit there wasn't an air gun to be seen, just a spider brace and torque wrench was used,
When it came to balancing I was pleased to see they didn't use hammered on weights but used self adhesive and fitted on the inside of the rim as they should with alloys, and therefore no damage to my wheels, just as it has been from the day my disco left the factory and the same to other cars fitted with alloys that I own/drive.

5 stars for Kwik Fit, it would seem they have changed for the better, :) but they took an hour to replace 4 tyres. :(

found that out when i had my front tyres replaced, not the locking wheel nuts but ordinary ones

noticed it being steel and they have like a chrome cover, the chrome cover blows due to the steels reaction and causing a nightmare getting them off

bought 16 x new wheel nuts and also 4 x decent locking wheel nuts

just thought it better and easier for the future

always put a small coppaslip smear on the hub where the alloy touches the steel so they don't fuse themselves together

Job done only way is grind outer off !!! Even main dealer mechanics agree it's poor design and flawed so why hasn't Landrover recalled them ?? Oh called at loacal garage today what was on ramps ? A Range Rover sport both rear wheels same thing they spent all morning removing wheels 20 mins doin hand break so beware first chance u get swap em

Did away with the locking nuts on mine, didn't fancy trying to remove a shagged locking nut.
Do people still nick wheels? Not seen a car on blocks for a long time.

I had the same problem a few years back with a certain well-known tyre organisation, not KF. I was going on holiday to I took the precaution of checking that I could shift the nuts myself, in the event of a needing to change a wheel, only to find that my own extended brace had no effect. I went back the tyre depot, demanded to see the manager & a copy of their procedual intructions to the fitters. Got the nuts retightenen with a torque-wrench plus an apology & a half-price voucher which I used later for a service on our daily driver. Result ;)
