We have a 2001 V6 Freelander that has devleoped a new problem. Starting from cold is fine but we now have an intermittent problem when starting from hot - it will not start. The engine turns over but it just will not fire.

Leave it for a period of time that can vary from 5 min to 30 min, and it will go as though nothing happened.

Any ideas?

Hi,

Sorry only just seen this thead.
I spent months tracing down this one but, and thanks to a similar LR forum, have now got it sorted.
The answer I think you will find is a camshaft sensor its fine until the heat gets to it then it will fail, you wont know this until you try to start again as it automatically goes into default (get you home mode).
I first eliminated this as the LR test book failed to find this intermitant problem. I spent £26 on the new sensor and its been brill since. (The diagnostic cost £25!!!!!)

Best Of Luck

Thanks for that. We had the sensor replaced a few weeks ago and the problem is fixed. The test book did come up with error codes for the Cam Sensor.

Cost too much here in Australia but with a broken leg, I am having to reply on dealers, workshops to look after my vehicles for now.
