Classic. Head gasket is on the way out, meaning blown already and coolant will be topped up just before you arrive. Also prop removed for "economy". See that all over ebay. Shocking for unsuspecting punters.

As above, could be an import. Only came back into the country in 2006.

Yeah but I mean it has got pre 01 bumper, headlights, side repeaters, grey wheel arches but 01 on door mirror (at least on the passenger side).

54 plate should be a facelift. Especially as it is listed as an 2005 registered..

i noticed the pre 01 headlights before i noticed the pictures were upside down lmao

Mines a re-import and was put on a plate for the year it was born. I think this has to be done unless you use a personal plate. Mine was re-imported several years after the build year. If it's a re-import then it will have "import" on the log book.

It's not on microcat 2010 march.

Saw a pre-face lift 54 plate near Matlock a few years ago.The same day i was having my 2001 face lifted. I wondered how this could be considering they face lifted the Freeby on the 2003 or 03 plate.

I have heard of late registered ones....

But even being exported then imported and age related plate issued doesn't tie up properly. The vehicle is definatly a pre 2001 build date. It COULD be that it didn't get registered when it was exported immediately and on re importation the dates could have been muddled up. But I still don't like it.

At least it's not on for stupid money. Despite all the info not tying up, £200 is just about right for it. Wouldn't pay any more though.

Being a 2004 plate, what difference would this make to road tax and insurance. My 2004my Td4 costs me more than my 2001 Td4 on both.Yet why would anyone want to be in a higher tax bracket for an earlier car?

Unless it is a genuine facelift car, that was bought with a broken head gasket, facelift bits went onto an early car, and pre facelift bits went back onto the newer car, so it was still "complete" for anyone unsuspecting...

Dash is the lighter colour and this wasn't available on facelift vehicles.

I'd suspect there's something very strange about this car.

Is it local to anyone for a visit to get the VIN?

When registering an imported vehicle, the registration document is required together with a Certificate of Conformity. The vehicle must be put through an MOT a.s.a.p., if eligible (Over 3 years old) and the VIN is used and written on the MOT. All the documentation is then sent/taken to the DVLA/local VRO and a couple of days later a U.K. reg.no. is issued which allows the plates to be made and fitted. A replacement MOT cert. is sent from the DVLA showing the reg. no. which shows the original date of registration.
When we moved back to the UK from Ireland, we bought our Irish registered Mitsubishi Colt over which had an "06" Irish plate. The DVLA gave us a "56" reg.no. and the V5 showed the date of first registration being the same as that on the Irish Registration document. The DVLA kept the Irish document.
Personally, I smell a rat with this listing, the VIN should give confirmation of the D.O.B.
