Hi all,
I"m looking to buy a Freelander 2 2.2 TD4 SE but it has 170000+ miles which I believe is 50K above the average mileage for a 2007 model. Should I steer clear? or is this sort of mileage acceptable in the newer Freelanders. My Mark 1 TD4 has over 149k but that is with the BMW engine, is the current engine in the Mark 2 as good as the BMW.
cheers

170k on a 14 year old engine is about right for the average of 12,000 miles per year normal motoring. If it has been serviced regularly it should be good for several more thousand miles. With any car with sort of mileage, good previous service history is very important. 170k motorway miles is much easier on the engine than 100k town driving. Things like pedal rubber wear and driver seat wear can be tell-tale signs

Thorough maintenance is more important than actual mileage.
At 170k, I'd expect to see that all fluids have been changed, and potentially some large components changed too, like the rear diff, PTU and Haldex.

I personally would find a later 58 or 09 reg FL2, as there were some updates done on the H9 onwards chassis, like a stronger Haldex, with different programming, a different crank sensor wheel, and a few other subtle changes to correct early issues.

Hi all, thanks for the advice. I have spoken to the seller and am not at all happy with some of the replies so have decided to leave it.
Thanks everyone
