Hi everyone,
The clutch pedal on our 55 plate petrol Freelander has suddenly moved to be an inch or so higher than the brake pedal, the slack is very slack but the clutch still operates fine as it always has done and bites at the same point. It is difficult to see if there is a spring that controls the pedal in the footwell and the Haynes manual is not much help. Is there a spring or does the pedal need adjusting at the master cylinder ? If it needs adjusting how do I do it ? Thanks

The circlip has broke holding the plunger in the master cyl, the circlip is not a service item and usual fix is new master cyl, if it's a K series then it's a pre filled complete master and slave system

Thanks Freelance, seems a big job for a circlip though. I'm a competent home mechanic but new to Freelanders - is there any guidance anywhere to change the MC on a K series ?

Is the circlip visible or inside the MS ? I've had look under the dash (need to be contortionist) and the main spring is fine but I cannot see where the circlip would be. The clutch is performing fine so I'm tempted to leave it for now.

Plastic clip in the end of master cyl, stops the actuating arm from popping out as pedal is raised, it's the rubber gaiter and weight, geometry of the clutch pedal keeping it in place at the moment, if you hook your foot under the pedal when exiting the car you could be in trouble

thanks again Freelance. Just been quoted £80 + vat for the replacement MS one piece item. Does anyone know of a fix ?
