Hi all,

Haven't posted here on LandyZone for almost 4 years!
Having wanted a Defender for so many years, and finally started seriously looking, I talked myself out of it again due to the amount that were being stolen then, and it seems to have gotten much worse recently
So I started looking at Disco`s, late D2's with facelift. Some very nice ones still out there (and lots of junk)
So am off to look at what seems to be a real nice one, having been assured by the seller that all is well below stairs.
So, apart from the chassis condition, possible ACE problems, ECU faults, 3 Amigos etc, anything else I need to look for? ;-)

Yes check it starts well from cold without waiting for heat

Get it nice and hot and whilst at idle check for crank case pressure by unscrewing oil filler cap and also lift dipstick

I have recently baught a lovely 2004 landmark one owner 84,000 miles. Things I have done since buying are.
1. Clutch, flywheel and spigiot bearing as the spigiot bearing was noisy when cold ( it was very worn when I got it out clutch and flywheel were fine). Rear crankshaft seal as this was leaking
2. Rear door lock actuator as it wouldn't unlock.
3. Rear antirollbar droplinks as one was knocking.
4. Leaking sunroof repaired
5. Front camshaft seal as this was leaking
Then a major service - overhall including
All oils and filters changed
Oil pump bolt replaced and new sump gasket
Egr deleted
Cat removed and new downpipe
Kit to rebuild the starter motor
Injector seals replaced and new injector loom ( this surprisingly transformed the performance much more powerful and smooth)
Lastly remap by dynachip once again this has once again upped the performance massively)
New battery as Mike from dynochip pointed out the voltage was low
New airflow meter as Mike also said it wasn't performing to spec
So check all the above, the spigiot bearing was the worst job as the gearbox had to come out and I was not aware of the issue when I baught it.

Thanks mate,
Did you know all that was wanting doing when you bought it?
I can, and don't mind working on my vehicles, but buying a daily driver, I could manage with out swinging the wrenches as soon as I have bought it ;-)
Tim

No mate, its a garage.
I could just turn up on spec, but I also need the trade in to get rid of my motor

It was a private sale and got the price reduced for sunroof and lack of performance. The spigiot was a suprise but I had all ready mentally budgeted for a clutch as a precaution. I am towing an 8m caravan round Europe for 12 weeks starting Sunday so lots I have done has been in preparation for this. I am more than happy with it and what it has cost and what I have ended up with.
