hi can anybody tell me which oil filter is the correct one for a freelander td4 2003/4 facelift. The original all paper Land Rover one is a lose fit in the filter. But the black one clicks into oil filter housing. There is 3 black o rings which would also seam to seal with the plastic toped one and not the original Land Rover one. Would this mean the all paper original filter will leak unfiltered oil back to the sump. They also show as same part number and listed for same engine but clearly different. So am a bit confused if anyone knows what one and why be very happy to hear. Many thanks IMG_1335.PNG

The filter should click into the housing and seal correctly.
The seals fit in the centre pin locator, with large one sealing the screw on lid.

Thanks nodge it seemed to make sense to me that it would click and seal to filter housing. just thought I would check I actually got a original all paper Land Rover one in the car at the moment from main stealers on the advice of Land Rover main stealers parts department and a tech apperantly that's all they fit to the td4 and have never seen the plastic ended one. Will change asap. Thanks again

I have used both, and they are as good as each other in my opinion, do not over tighten the oil filter cap all it does is crush the filter, also it will twist it.

ok cheers arctic, i did notice the all paper one crush easy where as the black topped filter has the recess around the end so pushes into the plastic cap housing a bit further and does'ent to crush at all is a perfect fit. which led me to think that is the better choice but as Land Rover sell the easily crushable all paper one only and haven't heard of the plastic topped one. Was a bit confused but I suppose if the paper one is crushed in there, in theory it should still seal aswell.

Since October 27th I have changed my oil 5 times in those I have used both, and have done so on my R40 too. but do prefer the plastic top ones, I always fit the filter in the engine unit, then fit the top/cap after. next due is March 15th -18th full service all filters and manifold clean along with EGR ready for the summer

Yep that's sorta what I have done a few changes since getting td4 at beggining of the summer and agree I prefer the black plastic ones. Also need to do the inlet manifold as I am pretty sure it's never been cleaned in a 140 000+ miles. Well definitely not since 85 000 and egr been on that whole time. Can't wait to see how bad it is. Thanks
