Hi - I love my 1983 SWB Series 3 but use it mostly on-road. Is it possible(albeit wrong both morally and ethically to the LR brand) to turn my SWB into 2 wheel drive only by getting rid of the transfer box and front diff and how would I do it?
May I burn in hell for suggesting such but it will keep a Landy on the road and loved for many years.

I once heard of a slate quarry buying ex MOD landies which were 2wd. They were aparently used as transport around a camp somewhere in continental europe. I don't know whether they were built this way by LR, or if they had been modified. Of course, the slate quarry mechanics had loads of spare transfer boxes and front axles lying around, and soon sorted it out.

I can apreciate where you're comming from. Why lug all that extra weicht around if you don't ned it. Have you considered Sherpa engine, gearbox, and rear axle? And replacing front leaf springs and axle with... oh hell, don't do it! It's too much hassle for too little on road benefit!!
