Hi I have a 63 puma. The key everything was fine until the key battery went. Swapped it fine. Now the remote doesnt light up, using the key only opens the drivers door. Whe. You turn the ignition on the red light under stops flashing and stays on. The truck just cranks.... Any ideas?

Have you tried repairing the key with the ecu?

Sounds like the imobleiser isn’t turning off. (I do wish I could spell sometimes). As the key isn’t paired.

Did you follow the correct battery replacement procedure (see your handbook). If so did you re-synchronise the fob afterwards? If you didn't then the engine will be immobilised.

Update... Now I have looked at the car properly.
All fuses and relays good.
Speaking to an 'expert' we have narrowed down the remote seems to be poop, but as the car has no central locking etc it shouldn't matter. The security light is on because it thinkd the key battery inow.
The car started and ran lumpy. Eml came on with a generator code.
New battery and fuel filter fitted just in case.
I have fuel to the pump and to the injectors but still not starting.
Any ideas?

Refer back to post #4 from Wimblowdriver and worth checking the fob battery connections are ok, have read about broken battery connection on a fob before.

If you replaced the car battery did you follow the correct disconnect procedure and resynchronise the fob after fitting the new car battery? If you didn't you will have problems. The disconnect procedure makes sure essential data remains stored in the ECU. If you did it all correctly the car has to be driven several miles while it relearns some engine running data (the engine management light will be on while it does that). On the next restart the engine management light should go out. If you did not follow the correct disconnect procedure for the car battery and have lost essential data you might have the problems you are experiencing.
If the fob is pooped, it does matter - the fob has to be with the ignition key so that it communicates with the sensor on the ignition key barrel to disable the immobiliser and allow the car to start.

Was changed with key in ig
Bit more to it than that. Key to ignition II, ignition off, disconnect car battery within 15 seconds. That preserves the data in the ECU.
I'll check the fob battery replacement procedure and post again shortly, I suspect that is what the main problem might be.

Fob battery replacement;
The remote control battery must be changed while inside the vehicle. Battery replacement must be completed within 5 minutes otherwise the EKA code will have to be entered before the remote control can be synchronised to the vehicle.
While sitting in the drivers seat;
insert key into the starter switch and turn to position II. Return to position 0 and remove the key. Remove remote battery and press one of the buttons for at least 5 seconds to drain residual power. Fit new battery +ve side up. From outside the vehicle operate the lock button at least 4 times this resynchronises the remote to the vehicle (and locks the car). Press unlock once to unlock.

I've been through all this with the guy that landrover send their cars to when they can't start them... Looking for that needle in a haystack now, that special problem that only landrovers have lol

You turn the ignition on the red light under stops flashing and stays on.
I understand that the fob might be fubered. In you first post you say the red light stays on, this means the engine is immobilised. Using the EKA will overcome that situation and get you going. Then you can try and resynchronise the fob or replace it (but replacement is beyond my knowledge).

Landrover have said if it cranks the immobiliser is deactivated, the light will stay on if it detects low battery/no remote
