Omg!!! I have a f1 td4 2001, ove never know a car where i go one step forward and two back! I decided to change the pads and shoes, almost two days ive been faffing with the bloody thing! I have the 3 amigos and handbrake light. I have changed all switches etc..anyway i change the shoes, now the speedo is over 130mph as soon as you turn on igition and the miles or adding on like a fruit machine. I went to mates house half a mile away, it registered i did 8!!! Afraid to use it at this rate il have done 200k by tues:(

I have seen similar before where 2x abs sensors had failed. When turning on the ignition to electric only or starting the engine, the speedo went to max and the miles were happily counting up. The hippo was stationary at the time. It was an auto but may be the same fault with yours.

Thanks for reply, mines a manual, yeah no doubt ive knocked or bust one of them! Is there anyway to stop it untill i can get to a garage at the weekend?

Nope. It will see 2 of the sensors are open circuit (or failed at least). If yer buy 2 sensors yer can plug them in as replacements but not fit them proper. This will stop the miles counting up. It will put the required resistance back in circuit. You'll see yellow inline clips either side on the engine space where the abs sensor connects to the main wire which goes to the abs unit under the bonnet. Be careful... yer abs isn't working proper in it's current condition.

An odbii read of the abs unit will confirm the fault and is normally the best thing to do. Yer need to know which sensors have failed if that's the cause. One on each wheel. The abs system supplies a speed signal to the main engine computer. Hence why the miles counter has gone mad.

Yer can disconnect them at the yellow inline connector and measure the loop resistance of the sensor to see if they're open circuit. Yer may have damaged the cables or sensors hen working on the brakes.

hi mate ive literally just ordered 2 abs sensors. u was right bout them conflicting which was making the mileage go nuts. i found the fuse to pause that happening if you get my drift

The ABS sensors are what tell your speedo what speed you are doing. So this is why your cars mileage is going up as well
