hi i need serious help....2 weeks ago i bought myself a 1999 freelander 1.8i 86000 miles looks lovely and is really tidy inside too...thats as far as the good bits go....im getting about 10miles per gallon..is this normal and if not any ideas why this is???? (would converting the car to 2 wheel drive help the petrol consumption???)next problem (of many) im now really concerned that the head gasket is going to go as ive since been told this the norm (can i prevent this by changing the head gasket before it goes)...when driving up an incline (not necessarily steep infact any slight incline) it looses power and slows WAY down as if the car is too heavy to climb up.....the clutch is really heavy so heavy infact it has given me problems and pain down my left side and i cant drive it any more my partner has to do all the driving AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST a knocking when turning seems to be coming from the rear(of the car)

FOR SALE....1999 LANDROVER FREELANDER IN NORTHERN IRELAND AND IM NOT JOKING I WISH ID NEVER SET EYES ON THIS CAR.

mmmm cheers for that piece of useful piece of advice(not) i could have swore a freelander was part of the landrover group ....i can only assume the name of the model is a bit of a giveaway FREE to good home....FREE to any home....and i also thought i might get some sensible advice but sayin as were on our funny half hour....i cant do the above(burn it) as i cant afford the petrol to do it!!!!!!!!

:hysterically_laughi :welcome: to LZ you will fit right in here .... guys will be along soon with advice. :D:D:D

bit late to ask, aint it?

Next time check a motor before you buy one.

sounds like yu got at least 3 of the common Freelander design enhancements.

you've bought a lemon that needs repairs costing way more than it's value.
if you bought it from a dealer, take it back and demand a refund under the sale of goods act because it's not fit for purpose.
if you bought it privately, scrap it, cut your losses and get on with your life.

so let me get this right its fkd???? and theres no point fixin it???? i bought it privately and i did take it a drive but their wasnt a hill convenient to throw it up and as it drives perfect in a straight line it didnt enter my thoughts that i needed to find one lesson learned......at £1100 it wasnt the most expensive vehicle ive ever purchased but its turned out to be an expensive lesson which i dont intend to repeat....no wonder rover went bust!!!!!

get someone to nick it and bedone with it.......expensive game repairing those problems and no I dont hate freelanders but i know the faults as its been repeated over and over again

if you're handy with the spanners, and can do the work yourself, it might be fixable under a grand.
if you've got to pay someone to do the work, forget it.

Before yu get shot - PM Northern Islander - cos he is yo way and knows 1.8 K series like the back of his hand (better possibly) he might be able to help. but it is likely to be expensive to fix.
possible VCU/cracked chassis/diff mounts is knocking.
lack of power - HGF?
heavy clutch - who knows?
