It's probably a common problem but can anybody help me out with this stupid problem?
I own a P38 1998 RR.
It unlocks with the remote but doesn't lock with it.
Both remotes have exactly the same problem.
the interior lights go on and off when you open and close the doors and tailgate also the suspension works fine.
the central locking works fine with the key??????
Help a newbie!:D

try turning key in lock ,to lock position then press lock button on remote, then unlock using key in the lock and press unlock button on remote. always works on mine, worth a shot

Thanks Dove I tried that and managed to disable the engine a couple of times sadly the no locking thing remains

maybe something has come undone in the drivers door, take door card off and make sure everything is conected as it should be,does it sound as if it wants to work or just dead?

Four possibilities, the lock mechanism, door outstation, the BECM:eek: or the wiring from the BECM to the out station and on the the lock. As the locking works on the key, I would guess the locking mechanism is probably OK, that leaves broken wires where they hinge as the first place to look, then bad connections at the out station and BECM and then the outstation itself and finally the BECM:eek::eek: Ideally you need a faultmate on it which will allow you to operate the locking because it looks like the lock signal from the BECM has gone missing at some point.

just a thought I have noticed it says ignition key in when it is not! I dont remember it doing this when the locks worked???? maybe I just never noticed it?
if it thinks the ignition key is in it might not lock?

Sometimes my dash says 'key in ignition' when its not and my doors still lock mate.

Try jiggling your key around in the ingnition as you withdraw the key.

Apparently its worn pins inside the barrel?

Hope this eliminates one solution mate

the ignition problem is usually muck in the lock basically clean it out - as for the locking problem is it possible to lock the doors from inside by depressing the lock plunger on either the drivers or the passenger door as Datatek says there are only really 4 options just on the off chance have a look at your fuse box under the bonnet and smell it to see if there is any burning a failing fuse box can send all sorts of odd messages to the becm also I have had the problem where the rear doors would lock on the fob (the rears get the message direct from the becm the fronts from the outstations in the doors ) the problem I had was one of the micro switches in the lock actuator also check the single black wire that feeds the lock that connection can cause a problem - it might be the signal from the outstation to the drivers door as it seems to be working the other way ie from lock to outstation to becm. door card off afraid

its deffo the ign key sensor, a squirt of wd40 will sort it, i had same issue recently. the car wont lock if it thinks the key is in the lock and ign is off!! (or on for that matter)

obviously this stops you locking it by mistake with key in!!

pity it doesnt work when they are on the seat!!
