Hi all,

Just joined!

My partner has a Freelander 2.0 TDi on a Q plate. Lovely vehicle! However, the coolant level is low enough to cause me a problem in terms of worry! She will not let me touch it until I have ascertained a) what sort of coolant should be used and b) the mix ratio - despite my amatuer love of things mechanical!

We're off camping to Wales tomorrow - can someone assist with answers to my question? Will go for an e-mail notification!

Regards,

Ddraigmor

When you say coolant do you mean your radiator water level? cos if you do i just use tap water. iv done it wiv all our cars n it doesnt seem to have affected them so i dont see a problem in doing it wiv your Freelander either. Well its gotta be better than letting it run dry ennit?

If your just topping up the resevoir then tap water will be fine, there should be enough antifreeze in the system for you to just add water.

Nearer the winter i would suggest adding some antifreeze or even go for a full service on the coolant system by replacing the old stuff with a 50/50 ratio of new antifreeze and tap water.

Thanks to all who posted a response!

I thought it was water / mix (depending on weather) but Her Indoords was suspicious and wanted to double check! Hey ho, Haynes Manual next trip to Halfords!

Regards - and thanks,
