Help td4 won’t start

Hi All,
This is my first post I hope you can help. My freelander 2004 diesel td4 100,000 miles won’t start suddenly been driving fine. I drove it to the shops 3 miles away and on my way back it just wouldn’t start. Greenflag tried several things but couldn’t start it and towed it back home. They sprayed something in and said engine is fine but something to do with fuel and the engine ticks over checked all fuses which all seem fine. Any idea or help in what I should be doing next or what it could be

It could be the fuel pump (in the tank - can you hear it running?), it could be a blockage in your fuel lines or fuel filter. Or it could be a faulty sensor giving the ECU incorrect information. Or an immobiliser fault. Did the Greenflag mechanic not plug in his computer to read the fault codes? This would be my next port of call, it would (should) give you a starting point. I'm not an expert on Freelanders at all, so there will be more experienced forum users on here later today to give you better advice. Good luck and let us know how you get on. So Greenflag must have used easy start, and after did it run on tick over ok, if so for how long, will it start from cold but once hot and you turn off it will not start again more info needed.
 
No unfortunately they didn’t manage to start it it was towed back I managed to get a long screwdriver and tap the pump for a few minutes and so happy it fired up a few mins ago. I’ve left it running. Do you think it might be ok for a day or two before I can take it to get the pump replaced? Thanks
 
deffo sounds like the fuel pump under the rear os wheel arch. i am disappointed that Green Flag used Easystart im led to believe it is nasty stuff and can stress the engine

Ok then the pump is working intermittently, therefore it does need changing, remember by cheap and you will buy twice only purchase a genuine pierburg pump, also change the fuel filter at the same time.
