 we bought our freelander 5dr 2.0 di 2000 yesterday (friday) when we collected our dream landy the sales man reversed into a large steal roller gate, the only damage he did (that we could see) was break a bumber light guard. on driving it back there was now a tapping coming from rear drivers wheel (this did not happen on test drive 2 days before and was the same side that hit the gate) sounds like metal on metal. It taps twice when pulling off and taps on gear change or just after but no tap in 3rd to 5th but has rumbled from probshaft when slowing down . it is not a continus tap. the landy has full MOT and full service history and my wife loves it. so can someone give me some idea what it could be. It is giong to our local garage on tuesday to be checked but they are not landrover minded.

Surely the garage from where you bought it should fix this!
Could be rear subframe bolt broken away due to the impact as the body stops due to the impact and the rear axle tries to continue moving. Its a fairly regular failing which you will find doing a search.

Get it back to the garage you bough it from!

They broke it-they fix it!

I would of gone mental at them anyway and negotiated a discount however I would of taken it straight back there as soon as I discovered the noises, its unacceptable that you should have to pay for his mistake!

we will not pay !!! the landy is at our local garage in kidderminster and they are going to have a look and see if he has damaged the sub frame or chassis. we spent a long time looking for a freelander and it has really upset my wife, this was the only landrover type she would have, and no way does she want it to go back to this man only for him to bodge it up or do more damage. In the past i have had much older landrovers that would of take a knock like this, but the freelander is not as strong. I am only hoping it is not rear sub frame or cracked chassis because from what i can tell its a £2000 fix.

£2000 or £2, if you like the car then insist on it being fixed. the garage will just do the same as all the others with cracks. weld em up:rolleyes:

:) good news not a shagged chassis but a rear break drum leaking. garage were we bought it from will pay for it to be fixed. The only thing we have found out that our service book has a dodgey service stamp and now All Electric garage in kidderminster are having a **** fit that one of their very old sevice stamps is doing the rounds. only prop for us is that when we checked the service book before buying it, it said that the cam belt had been replace but now we know that was said on the dodgey stamp. now VOSA and the DVLA are now intrested in the landy and all its past service history.:mad::mad::mad:
