Freelander 1 Help please

My 2006 td4 freelander has developed a noise which appears to be rotational but is not present when accelerating but as soon as I freewheel or not accelerate then I get a rumbling noise which seems to be coming from the front N/S.
any ideas welcomed

Like are all tyres identical, same make, same style with least worn on the rear?
When was the VCU last checked?
When was the IRD oil last replaced and what did it look like?

When was the gearbox oil last changed?
Is it a manual or automatic?
How many miles is on it?
