My Discovery TD5 has developed quite a bad leak under the car. Also my ACE light has turned orange. I am not mechanically minded. Does this mean the ACE system is leaking and creating a fault ? I guess if it is best to get the car to Land Rover specialist/dealer ASAP Any response/advice would be gratefully appreciated. Thanks

Take a look to the ACE reservoir.....if the fluid is under level u might have an ACE leak....dont let it empty coz from a pipe/actuator/valve block seal leak(that's common and easy to fix) u'll end up with a burnt pump aswell.

what level is the ace showing?

Thanks for replies sorry not replied before as been away. I have checked the ACE reservoir and it had dropped below the minimum level. I topped up to maximum with the correct fluid from Land Rover however it dropped below minimum level within 5 miles. The leak is on the left hand side of the car. I assume this would probably be a leaking pipe. Any thoughts or ideas on a cheap fix ? thanks

If it's a pipe, there's no such thing as a cheap fix, sorry.

I had one done on mine about 6 months ago at an indie. He charged around £270. Mind you he had to remove rad hoses etc and hence had to refill the coolent afterwards.

The safe fix is to replace the pipe(or the actuator) with a new one(there is up to 150 bar pressure in there while working)....Untill u fix it, if u want to use the car dont waste the good and expensive fluid on it ...keep filling up with the cheapest transmission fluid. After u fix it drain the system and refill with the green fookin expensive one(then u will waste some green fluid but not much)......after that u have to bleed the system via tester(nanocom/hawkeye/etc).......the pipe/actuator replacement procedure its quite easy...see RAVE, if u are a "toolfriendly" guy u can do it yourself.

Just a quick update on the above to confirm the problem was a corroded ACE pipe. I took the car to WEST MIDS 4 X 4 tel 07786 699856 (Ian & Tom) who are based in Kingswinford and had a fantastic service and their labour costs were more than reasonable. These guys are very knowledgeable on all Land Rovers. I was recommended to them by another Landy Zone member and felt after the way I was treated I wanted to make Landy Zone members aware of a job well done.
