help needed advice or box of matches

ive got a p38 range rover the engine went so me and my bright ideas , thought id put newer engine in which ive done , i used a 4.6 engine out of a 01 plate i used the wiring loom etc as the ecu was differant to mine and near the bulkhead with 5 black plugs on it , ok so changed all that and it woulod not start , spoke to land rover they said mine had old becm in it and would need one from newer one , mine was a amr one , the mewer one which i got today is ywc , ive fitted the becm and ignition lock with sender , it has taken the code and remote works , the engine turns over but will not start , i thought i would need the engine ecu to match becm unit but been told by 2 companys that my becm should work and no need to change engine ecu , im now lost and dont know what to do now so really need help or advice , or even a box of matches
 
If you have fitted the later THOR engine and loom you need the THOR (Bosch) Ecu. The ecu has it's own engine security code (EMS code) which needs to be identical in the Becm.
Additionally, the Becm has four engine type options, GEMS, Motronic (THOR), Early diesel and late diesel. The correct option needs to be selected.
Another point is that the replacement Becm may have a higher mileage stored than the odometer on your car...the odometer or the Becm will go to the higher reading if not reset.

best of luck with that one,don't think you are too far away tho,have you checked the obvious,fuel,spark and the wiring.
 
thanks for quick replies , its got the thour engine with wiring loom and ecu near bulkhead rather than near battery and it has 5 plugs rather than 3 , its turning over but no spark , hartwell land rover have said i shouldnt need to change engine ecu just the becm unit for a ywc one rather than amr this ive done and it turns over but no spark , so by the first reply i need a becm , ignition lock sender and engine ecu all from same rang rover with thour engine ?
 
it would be good if he could do it as need it this weater and dont want to use it just to give me a bit of heat if i set fire to it , :eek:
