Wondering if anyone has come across this before!

I recently purchased a 110 v8 to use as a works vehicle/toy. When i got the old girl home I realised the tracking was out, alot. One new track rod later problem solved barr final adjustment. less than 30 miles later I noticed that the new bar had developed a very slight curve, then that evening i caught a curb whilst on full lock reversing into my parents drive which resulted in a very bent track rod!

I'm stumped, I cannot figure out what has caused the rod to bend, it could be down to incorrect fitting, im certainly no mechanic but thought id done everything correctly. There could be another fault that is causing this but i cannot think what it could be as she drove fine before!

I would greatly appreciate any advice on how to fix this, or even general pointers on where to start.

Thanks.

First of all you can buy hi strenght track rod bars ( Dan Bars ) which are a better investment than the standard ones

re the new one bending

was it a non genuine replacement ??
i have found that SOME non genuine bars can and do bend with the slightest of stress

Also worth checking is the swivel joints are not to tight some times this does cause extra stress and can help towards bending the track bars

Hi

almost anything could have caused it, running into curbs/trees/off road all can bend track rods. Most common is curbs and it only needs to be hit once to put everything out of alignment.

Youre stearing ball joints could have quit, at least one of them pushing the entire lot out of adjustment. which side is it the power stearing side or non ? Check security of the stearing including over tightness. (you don't need to be a mechanic to do that just have an assistant turn the steering left to right to see if there is a fault

One word of caution when buying these Dan Bars.
I had them fitted to my Defender from the above company.

I managed to bend mine.... and there was no way of straightning it to get home.
Well I dint bend it.. a friend did as he was stuck and used the winch,
