hi guys

i live in spain and me and my partner have a mini digger hire business. at the moment we are towing 3 ton with a vw caravelle and its on its last legs. i have always had landcrusiers but they are very expensive in spain and also the roads are alot narrower than in the uk so i am looking at a 1998 range rover diesel dse it is very clean with a full service history has only done 125000km (77500miles) which is low for a spanish car. i was wondering if there is any thing i should look out for problem wise?

also if i buy the car should i buy a psi chip as i am towing alot of weight every day, im not sure because i have heard bad comment about cilinder heads going.

thanks alot

hi ,personally i would leave the diesel model alone and go for the petrol model on lpg if lpg is readilly available over there , unlike the diesel which i feel would be underpowered for your work the petrol version would be well on top of it and if running on lpg from a money point of veiw would be as economical

thanks guys for the help it is much appreciated.

the problem with lpg is that where i live there is nowhere that sells.

the big v8 in the discos and rangies are just too expensive to run.

at the moment i am tossing up between a td5 disco or a dse rangie.

any thoughts will be appreciated

cheers

Hi Theo.
Theres less weight on Td5, and some come with air bag rear suspension for under and up action for hitching up but how easy are the spares to get hold of out there ? Also i found an auto just so much better for towing especially when constant gear selection is required, used to drive me knuts in London. Do you get Bio diesel ?

Cheers, Nick.

hi nick

so therfore the best option would be the rangie as it weighs more to stop it "running away with you"

if you refer to biodiesel as the chipfat stuff then yes we do get it here

and lpg is an hour away to the nearest petrol station that sells it so that is also unviable

the spares for the land rovers in spain are everywhere any spares shop can get them to you in a couple of days and they arent expensive either

thanks
theo

oh and i would get an auto but they are generally 3000€ more than a manual so again its always pushing the price up as i need a new trailer aswell
