Disco 2 Help electrical fault ?

Evening good folk.
Just had a nightmare trying to get the old girl started its an 02 disco td5, first off unlocked it with the key fob no problem interior lights come on as usual, key in ignition turn it all dash lights on all normal so far, turn it to start and everything turns off no power at all, take key out try again no dash lights or interior lights working now, removed key and tried to lock and nothing, after about 5 mins of this it started to lock and unlock of the key fob and interior and dash lights started working until I tried to start then nothing again, left it for 10 mins then tried again and started first turn of the key no problem. What are your thoughts people.

Maybe start with the basics, have you got a good quality brand battery fitted in the fob.

Just checked got a Panasonic in there, just changed it for a fresh one, would an iffy key fob battery cause this.
Starting no problem now but it was before this indecent.
