anyone know what the orange warning light means? in the instument panel looks like 4 wheels on an axle.
sorry for the dumb question just brought landrover diso 97 series 1,no manual p.s landrover from the states.
thanks all
adie

It means that your diff lock is engaged, if ya light remains on after the diff lock is disengaged you may have " wind up", reverse the car for a short distance then go forward, this should sort it if not then have it looked at.
Hope that helps mate i just looked it up in my manual.

thanks kenny b i,ll try that, another dumb question is i have an automatic when i drive normally normal driving i mean i drive in drive .
What position should the high low ratio gearstick be in as it appears my one is in high.
please inform/enlighten me how to use this properly

hey kenny thanks
adie

Yeah thats where it should be in normal driving on the road, if you put it into neutral the vehicle should not drive,( a good extra anti theft device!) and when engaged into low this should be used for low speed manouvering only and not at any high speed.

Ive just bought my disco a 97 tdi first 4x4 ever and i have only picked this knowledge up from lookin on here, This is a great source of info as i am a newbie so i was wondering what lots of lights and switches did ! lol
Anyway hope that helped ya mate and good luck

cheeers kenny b for the reply ,managed to sort that light problem ,it was the diff lock and i tried what you said and also moved the gear stick to the right a little a guess what the light turned off.
thanks again
adie.
p.s any idea about what type of oil to use?
brake pads?
transmission fluid?
what is done on a full sevice?

Yeah no worries Adie, Glad the info helped. As to oil i asked that on here and i said i used castrol gtx magnatec and the answers were that i couldnt go far wrong wiv that . All the best mate :)

Looking through the Haynes manual, the list for a service is impressive to say the least, now I know why Yeovil landrover deal would charge £500 for a major service , the list is as follows.
I hope it helps.

Jeeezus! Thats main dealers for ya! it looks good on ya service book with main dealer stamps but as yella disco said its largely made up of "checks". As ive just bought my first landy, A 300 tdi disco and had to put it in for some bits to pass the mot and i put it into R.J Harvey(landrovers) and for a major service he charges between £246-252.00 depending on the engine!
