Hello to all..my mid life crisis has led me to buying a defender for working in woodlands. Wifes freelander not really up to it. It is 1990 110 pick up - dog rough and just right for wot i need..(local indy has checked it out and its sound....well used but sound). My haynes manual (brand new) shows jacking the vehicle up with a bottle jack but i have the old style jack..please can anyone tell me were to stick it !!!!!! both front and rear!!!! It would appear from what i read that this old style jack is unsafe and potentially life threatening...(but seriously where is best jack point - i only want to take wheels off to paint em!!!!)

get a bottle jack with a curved plate on under an axle - and bung a stand under the axle once it's at the required height, thats if your planning on being under it if the jack fails

yep 2 ton will be fine but a discovery one is better because it has a curved rest that's perfect for under the axle. If you want to use the Landy jack it goes into the holes in the end of the chassis legs at the front (remove rubber bungs) & the crossmember at the back.

its a 110 hi cap pick up so would 2 ton be enough...2 ton not 2 tonne !!

it would, but if you've got a load in the back it'd strain the poor little thing - i keep a couple of 8 ton bottle jacks in mine all the time, and a chopped up scaffold board to use as a base if the grounds soft
