Hi all

just a quick introduction from me - just started to lurk on the forums as Im considering the obvious purchase. I can only assume that you all are millionaires as it seems to cost a fortune to keep these things on the road :) or off it as may be the case.

Good to see such a great owners club forum and im sure ill be posting lots of pointless questions soon.

I have 2 kids and a better half that drain resources quicker than they can be replenished so im looking for something modest that i can off road and take the family out without too much embarassment - currently on the idea of a 2000/02 plate disco. good job im a qualified mechanic -although i dont do it as a living - as i suspect i shall be under it every other weekend and im not a millionaire

i would love a "proper one" but its going to have to wait for a while. i keep showing my missus the lifted 90/110s all kitted out but she knows that as far as keeping the kids in one piece in an accident they arent the best option and i have next to no chance of persuading her. could i fit a couple of balloons to the dash and tin cans to the bumpers?

as far as i can sum up for myself it seems like the disco 1 is getting hard to find a rust free one but the tdi engines are good, i have a better chance of finding a relatively rust free disc 2. but they have a few mechanical issues - these i dont mind too much, i can fix mechanicals im not so good with bodywork. i did consider getting a p38 but all the horror stories are a bit off putting and the L322 is too expensive for me to off road and again more horrors.

back to more forum trawling for me :)

Nonsense Me mate was rammed head on by some twaat in a vectra. Bent his front bumper and mashed the o/s front wheel. But the Vectra driver had to be cut out of his tincan.
