Hi, after a long search looking at distant Landies at fanciful prices I recently bought my very first one locally off eBay for £2k.

Bought sight unseen (despite only being 4 miles away!) it turns out to be a reasonably straight and sound vehicle. It's a '79 Series 3 petrol SWB Hardtop with windows (grey with white hardtop) and is totally to original spec, perhaps apart from the Fairey o/d.

I use it locally for 'dogs and logs' duty (well the wife was getting sick of me using her Mazda like a skip) and it can best be described as like driving a tractor wearing a shed. I'm reliably informed by a couple of Series owning friends that its fine - 'they are all like that, honest'.

Currently grapling with headlights which have given up on dipped beam. They worked when I got it, but first the offside, then later the same day the nearside packed in. Main beam is fine, and as they run off the same fuse I guess that isn't the issue. Bought a set of Wipac Halogen lights to replace the ols sealed beam jobs, but now fitted they have the same issue. Any clues gratefully recieved as I haven't a clue with electrics.

Oh, and it leaks petrol everywhere when I fill up.

Once upon a time, long ago, in a far off distant land(y) ....:D:D:D

:hysterically_laughi
(yes, I'm easily amused)

Welcome to the world of Series ownership - it's great fun so long as you understand that there will always be something that needs doing and you will often be left scratching your head and turning to the peeps on here who will keep you right - thank God! I understand and trust me - it's worth it!

I was told once that all Landies are female (or should be) as they need constant attention - strangely enough, all 3 of mine have been female, including my County!! Have fun!

Kazzi - love your brown Series 3 County avatar - the best looking Series 3 combo in my view.

Just off to the shed with a can of WD40, as per landowner's advice

:D Me too - that's my baby! She looks pretty good in that pic but trust me, she has plenty of character marks - as she should have! Only had Beanie for just over a year - had my S2 (Frog) for 17 years before that!

Your little grey beastie looks good and if she's solid underneath and has a good bulkhead you're laughing! Everything else can be done as and when - that's what I'm doing but keeping everything as original as possible and leaving the battle scars exactly where they are! Beanie has a galved chassis so I'm very happy indeed - still want another S2 though!

Cute dog by the way!

WD40 (and some other stuff I can't remember the name of but it's brilliant) is something you will most certainly need :)

:welcome2:...you got to be just north of Sandbach, I recognise the Fodens:D
Correct, Little Budworth in fact.

I have to confess that the top photo was taken by its previous owner at Kelsall Steam Fair shortly before he sold it to me. I had been to the fair and admired it thinking "thats just the sort I'm after", and it was only by total co-incidence that its the one I bought on Ebay a few weeks later.

The dog (Ted) however is mine.

**** GOOD NEWS **** - thanks to the wonders of WD40 I now have fully functioning headlights again!

This isn't so much a Hello as a Hello Again. I can't believe that it was 2011 that I posted the above but life and stuff overtook me and me grey Series 3 saw precious little use. It was starting to decompose before someone made an offer for it, so its now gone to pastures new (or at least it's not in my pasture any more!)

I lasted about a fortnight without wanting another one, so here is the other one;

It's a 1999 90 td5. Well pleased with it, its the one I should have bought seven years ago.
