Hi there

I am 17 and as my 1st car my dad bought me a land rover at the weekend :D . Its a 1982 series 3 88" petrol. pictured here

As you can see its suffering from the dreaded chequer plate rash :puke: which I intend to remove shortly.

I intend to do a full rebuild and have it off the road in our shed for a while.

First the negatives

On the 2 1/2 hour journey back from Brecon the speedometer broke when we reached 70mph.

I filled it up with oil at the start of the journey an its near empty now

Passenger side windscreen wiper is missing a plastic bit to hold the wiper to the arm.

The springs have seen better days.

The front drivers side indicator does not work and rear drivers side indicator goes at double speed

The door glass in the sliding windows is a bit loose, is this normal?

And the positives

chassis and bulkhead appear to be in good shape

Its only done 37000 or 137000 but most likely the latter as it has done under 8000 in last 10 years

Its soo fun to drive (only driven off road so far though)

Its got overdrive but I thought that it might have been out. Now it reads 35mph at 50mph but when you take your foot off the accelerator it shoots up to 45 until engine braking kicks in.

the rear indicator will be the bulb gone if the other is flashing double time...are you sure theres a sump plug there!?! could well be a cam/crank seal..

Well done on pickin it up, looks great, hope you have fun on the restore...wish i still had my series!

My 6 yr old just asked if he can have one for his first car!

Not posted in the series section yet and have little idea about mechanics, hoping to pick knowledge up as I go along or call in some more experienced friend. I'm gonna try and get most of the body off this week.
