Hi all,

Newbie here.
I need some help and advice with my disco 1.
My heater suddenly stopped working. The blower works on Aircon but when I slide to heat it stopped.
Can anyone help ?
I checked all the fuses and it's looks ok. The relays by drivers footwell seem ok and have click sound.
I have removed the dash fascia and have access to the switch .

Before I remove anything else anyone can advise what it could be ?

Thanks

Saff

Highly likely to be the main heater motor seized, I have just changed my motor, complete dash has to come out
So a fun job,
The original heater motors are no longer available so fitted the American modified kit,
You have a separate blower motor for the aircon,
It’s not too bad a job to do if you have the room, or wait until the warmer weather,

My mistake it’s still a bit early for me , I see you are in the discovery section,

I think you are still correct 200 disco with a/c in the uk is super rare and the whole kit is crammed into where the glovebox would be on a non a/c disco.

Yes I’m correct, the second response was my mistake,
I have just done my disc 1 200tdi with air on with exactly the same symptoms and is now sorted with new motor

Does it still work? Iirc they are R12 gas?

Hi Thanks for the reply.

I don't really want to use the aircon. Is there any other way i can bypass so the heather will work?

I think there are two fan motors, one for the std heater and one for the a/c, so when you slide the switch across from a/c to heat it switches off one fan and engages the other and the heater one is bound to be the areshole to change!
Had a quick google. very little info out there

As lynall has said there are two motors, the main heater motor is behind the central dash and the aircon
One where the passenger side glovebox would go,
It’s not a bad job, probably a day to do, remove centre consol/ remove instrument cluster/ steering wheel/ indicator stalk/ NS handgrip then unbolt and remove complete dash from car,
Four bolts from heater assembly and two hose plus wiring and the heater is out,
Split the heater assembly down the middle undoing clips/ screws and clips, it’s a bit fiddly then replace motor,
Then everything in reverse, how simple is that ?
Unless you can do it under cover I would wait for spring,

So what tests have u done? Is there voltage at the fan installed in the heater box, is there an issue with the fan motor (part no. RTC6693). Perhaps an iffy switch maybe.

The electrical wiring is pretty simple for fault finding in the early D1 as shown below in a Haynes manual diagram.

Hi
So far I only checked the fuses and opened the dash to get to the switch . I am waiting for more tools as I need L shaped screwdriver to pull the switch out.

However I use my test pen earlier on the fuses, and shockingly from A1-A7 I can't get any result(I meant no light on my test pen#) which is strange as it supposed to be head light indicator etc and they all are working. I think at some point someone had bypassed all the electrics from fuse box"!

My main thing on Tuesday is to take switch out and test if there is any live , then i will be moving to the fan and others.

Anyone know which relay or colour of the wires in for heating?

Thanks

The relay isn’t an issue, it’s dual function a/c and heat and as u say a/c is ok so the relay is functioning.
As the heating in the days of the 200s was either a/c or heating (later it’s air blending) is the 12v supply was diverted from via the relay to the heating fan and the coolant valve therefore providing heat to the heater matrix... so it appears that this is not happening.:(

HI All,

I had no luck but its looks like there is a loose connection.

The fan is working fine when its on AC but stopped when i slide the switch to the heat.

So i think i need to go through all the wires to see if there is any loose connection.
|There is two fans under my glove box . both of them working when I put on AC.
Is there any other fuses between the motor and the switch?
