Hello there,

New boy here! Does anyone know where I can get the foam seal that wraps around the heater matirx to protect it when you put it back into the heater unit?

Or can you use any old foam?

I've tried everywhere on line with no joy!

Thanks!

Mojo

i fitted a matrix fae a saab in me def 200 tdi,

i filled the holes that were left in heater box with insulation "fibreglass" fae ma own loft, stuffed it in way a pencil, sorted:D

Well, I managed to get the heater box back in after a lot of swearing and it works a treat.

Thanks for the inputs!

Ok I know you have done the job now but you could have just bought the correct part from a main dealer. I bought the genuine item when I last did my heater and it really is cheap (just a couple of £). Being foam-rubber it won't absorb water, is self adhesive and will last for many years before going hard.
The other 'solution' is to use silicon but you try removing the heater unit when it has been sealed in with that stuff!

and the other other solution is to use araldite.

silicon ffs! where'd you pick up that handy tip??

Oh dear!

I thought it was clear that I had already recomended the use of the correct part for the job and the use of 'solution' indicated that I didn't actually think silicon was a great idea. Unfortunately it is a product put forward quite often across various forums (and in the pub) when it fact it isn't as good as the correct part for the job which is quite often cheaper to buy in the first place.:)

I don't think Araldite would work very well either.

Where did you get the genuine stuff from though.

Main dealer.
It was one of those times when it wasn't worth ordering through one of the mail-order specialists as the genuine artical only costs about £3-4 and was available from my local franchised dealer next day. The circular seal between the heater-box and the inlet duct cost slightly more but that didn't break the bank either.
