I know Halfords sometimes take a bit of a slagging but their professional tool range is supposed to be good. They've got ratchet spanners on special offer - I wouldn't pay the £89.99 pre sale price but at £39.99 they might be worth a look. Click here

you can get a set of BRITOOL ratchet spanners for about that price (£89) and they are a lot better than halfords. look on ebay for them.

Are these ratchet spanners any good? I keep havin a look but am worried they will brake. Landy nuts are never easy to remove and I can just see the ratchets bits popin out every where when swinging off a rusty nut:eek:

They're supposed to be pretty good although I wouldn't want to belt them to crack a nut loose, probably OK once you'd got it shifting though.

Not really meant to move summat that needs belting, but once it's moved a tad they're excellent.

they are good but obviously dont abuse them like you would a normal spanner ! they are dead handy when your working in confind spaces. have a look at these off ebay:
Item number: 200290338314
also this place has some cheep britool ratchet spanners and is on ebay:
eBay UK Shop - The Tool Academy: Britool, Timing Kit, Franklin

Thanks for those vivnap, for what I'd use them for I think I'll still be popping down to Halfords in the morning.

I've got a 13mm and an 11mm ratchet from Halfrauds and they've been excellent. Had them about two years but dont abuse em, free off stubborn nuts first and they have been great.
Soak them in hot grease now and then, it gets in to the ratchet and stays there to lube it as you work.

Hmmm. I think I might have a to me from me Crimbo prezi from Halfords this year :)
Now that sounds like a good plan!

I've been rehearsing along the lines of "You know you were finding it hard to choose me a present ............ well I've had a really good idea and have I've saved over £40 .......... " :D

I have had the Halfords set for 2 years. Very good quality and seem as strong as my Britool set.

Just treated myself to a set of these - haven't used them in anger yet but the quality feels good.

They bloke in my local Halfords said they are going back up to £59.99 in a couple of days so you'd better hurry if you want a set at £39.99

I bought a set of 6 ratchet spanners from Carrefour - 10 through to 17mm.

They are brilliant and I use them all the time.

Cost?? I hear you ask?? 15 euros !!!!!!! for six spanners - so I bought two sets just in case they break.

Have used them loads and no signs of a weakness yet !!

Cheers all and a Very Merry Christmas,

From Dave and family

judging by the way the economy is heading halford will reduce them further ! :)

Costco are doing a set of 6 for £15 at the moment, up to 19mm, only downside is they don't include a 17mm, jumps from 15mm to 19mm (unless someone used the five finger trick on the set!!)
