Hello -
I went to drive my 95 Range Rover at night and after going a few hundred feet or so the lights went off for a second or two then came back on. This repeated itself several times and I got the car back home with the fog lights. Once the car was driven for awhile the headlights seemed to stop turning off. Everytime the lights went off, I could hear a clicking noise. I think the problem is a reostat or relay switch but which one? Note: I took the RR to the Landy dealer in Schaumburg, Illinois and they couldn't find the problem... Can anybody help?

Yup:-
Have a look at the switches.
One of your fellow countrymen asked me a similar question the other day on another forum, and I have posted a reply, with pictures of what to look forHERE
Basically, the switches get hot and relax the tension on the contacts.
Either all lights go, or just the dip/high beam goies, either intermittent of permenant.
Intermittent is usually an early indication of failure.
Hope it helps

I bet this is why my Range Rover (1983) lights won't work dipped

Excellent tip

Just going out into the garden with this fresh inspiration to fix it ( attempt No 3 ) !

The problem is in the turn signal, dimmer switch on the steering column. It should be replaced as the contacts are burned out and it will only get worse and not better. Don't know what it will cost in UK but mine cost about $A300 and tooth 15 minutes to install. I burned my switch out by running spotlights (driving lights) thro that switch. I am now saving up to buy a relay system for bothe the driving lights and the headlights.
