Freelander 1 Having to wait when shifting P to R

i have a 2005 freelander td4 diesel auto model and recently i just cant get my car wont go into reverse instantly (having to wait between 1 minute to 5) when i shift to R from P.
i changed the gear oil but problem persists
any idea?

When you say "gear oil" you did use ATF?

Right?

What does it drive like once it selects gear?

Might also be the XYZ switch giving greif.

Try thrahing the lever from P-1 a few times, then try.

yea im sure the mechanic did this correctly

everythings fine once it starts to run and no more "waiting time" for gears to kick in - it almost always happen when the car is idle for a long time, even after i give it a good 5 minute warm up

sorry whats this? im not familiar with land rover things

yea this is what i did but it doesnt help much
