Has anyone used glue to fix a patch to a holed canvas?

Anyone done this? I have a hole, a patch, just wondering on the type of glue to use.

Blacks used to do a glue specifically for that, not sure if they still do. All my tents for years have been nylon.

A couple of years ago we cut a large old canvas tarp to make a sunshade. Wondered how to glue it together, just on the off-chance I tried a hot glue gun, putting pressure on the join with a wallpaper seam roller. Could not get the test piece apart. Has lasted 3 years outside from March to November, no ill effects at all.

You can get repair patches/tape for boat canvas covers.

These guys recommend duct tape for every repair.
