Hi guys, i just went to drive off in the landy and the handbrake was stuck on. I checked underneath and the cable was free and moving when the missus was pulling it up and down, the handbrake that is :D .

So this makes me think that somthing inside the drum was stuck. I freed it up by drivng forwards and backwards a few times.

Then checked the drum when we got back after a 1/2 hour drive and it was stone cold so this also tells me that it is'nt no longer stuck on at all.

I had left it only two days for this to occur, after i had jet washed it at the garage. It's now left in gear without the handbrake on so it does'nt occur again + it's on flat ground so I have no worries of it rolling.

Any thoughts would be greatly apprecciated, i.e does it need urgent attention or will it be ok now i've freed it up.

Cheers Terra

may well just be a bit of water got in, but its not too hard to open it up and check it all out and grease it up. I saw a guide on here a while ago..

I've had this problem with cars before and it usually only happens in damp conditions, i just checked out busters photo guide, might give it it ago one weekend if it gets worse.

Don't say that the missus is reading the forum, she's going mad about me spending £££ on the landy, LOL Just out of curiosity, how much is one of them?

its easy to clean and grease, the recent thread about it and the idiots guide done by buster explain all in detail...

If you wade that is your problem, they don't do too well when they get wet and clogged with muck.

Take the drum off, take off the shoes and take the expander out, strip it, clean it up and reassemble with some lithium grease, or molyslip.

If on stripping it you find the rollers are badly pitted and rusted then get a new explander.

I had an issue where the grease inside the drum was like concrete (1985 90), drum face off, removed both 'actuators' (i think there called).

this stopped the adjuster nut and also the main handbrake mechanism from moving once placed on.

new grease,

sorted.
